Support Local Farmers
I pledge to shop for groceries at a local farmers' market at least once a month, whenever they're operational.
This is an ongoing pledge that should be fulfilled as often as possible.

By supporting our local food communities we are working to reclaim positive food values in our everyday.

In addition: To support local farmers and to encourage local back yard gardening, I always stop at roadside stands. Often the larger markets are not as convenient, but the lady down the road who raises tomatoes or figs is always there. Support them as well, please..

Farmers markets are open from May through November in Maryland and I shope at them weekly. I participated in a CSA program with a local organic farmer this summer & fall and will do it again next year. Excellent produce and value. I also grow my own organic veggies & herbs in 4 raised beds in my suburban backyard. Am trying to get the (large) company I work for to allow a 'market' in the summer so that employees who grow their own veggies could bring them to work and sell them to fellow employees and any unused produce could go to local food banks. Also trying to get a chunk of the many acres of sod around the building I work in torn up and turned into a 'community' garden as well. I think this will also educate folks about good nutrition, which in turn can save the company $$ with fewer people having health problems related to their diet.A lot of push-back and red tape, but I'm not giving up!

Every week! We're so lucky to have farmers markets year-round in Portland. Good for you, good for the local economy, good for the earth! www.peoples.coop & www.portlandfarmersmarket.org

The local home grown veggies & fruits are so much better tasting. I wish there were more close to me - the closest is 13 miles away, and only on the weekends & seasonal. God Bless them all - they work so hard, and barely get the recognition they deserve.

We have several farmer's markets available around Chandler, AZ. Please feel free to ask me if you have any questions about the locations of the local markets or where to obtain the freshest products. :)

Pledge fulfilled Sep 21!
I live on Long Island. There is a farmer's market within 15-20 minutes of everyone that lives on this island.

I've yet to find a farmer's market nearby, but when I'm doing my regular shopping, I try my best to look for locally grown fruits & veggies. I'm sad that it's so hard to find farmer's markets by me after having them (in a different state) all my life. It's time to raise my own, I guess.....used to!

Because they need to make a living too, and the fresh produce is better for you than the ones in the grocery stores, which are coated with chemicals, and are picked green for the long shipment. I don't think we should buy all this foreign grown produce. We need to support our own producers.
